This is a Sufi of Tijjaniyya sect. I picked it by mistake and drove 2 hours out of my route to attend Juma'a. My 1st clue is most of the folks walking in have the Tasbih beads with the flags. The announcer before the Khutba was speaking in a Fulfulde dialect I don't understand but I got an idea that he's inviting people to come for wazifa and that they are having a Maulud in the park the next day. I ignored that and with the thought that the Imam is my concern and I'll listen to the Khutba , pray and leave. Another announcer took over and spoke in the same language for a little bit then switched to English to announce that we are blessed to be in the presence of a special guest who is visiting and will lead the salat He went on to start showering some phrases on the visitor that, I believe, are excessive. At this point I am very uncomfortable! The guest started the sermon in a heavily accented Arabic that I have a hard time comprehending! I do clearly hard the mention of Nyass, who I know about, at that point, I and my family took leave to the entry way, prayed Zuhr and Asr and left. I am disappointed that a lot of the deviations that used to, and still do to some extent in Africa, find it's way into our migrant communities. I observed one of the attendees hand the person collecting the donations before the prayer a $5 not and asked for change and my heart sank knowing how poor that person might be and still handing his hard earned resource for "sadaqa"! Not that it mattered but the prayer whole was very hot and humid with a couple of wall mounted fans trying, and failing, to keep cool. I am praying that Allah guide all of us away from deviations and innovations and keep us on the straight path.
