Here’s a polished review that should work well for both Google and Yelp: ★★★★★ Mezcal is easily the best Mexican restaurant we’ve found in the Newport News area. It is far superior to the typical chain Mexican restaurants, and the quality of both the food and the overall experience really stands out. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, with attractive, well-maintained décor and a comfortable atmosphere. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and was prepared extremely well—from the fajitas and tacos to the rice, beans, chips, salsa, and queso. The portions were generous, the ingredients tasted fresh, and nothing felt like the generic, mass-produced food you often get at a chain. The service was equally impressive. Our wait staff was genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. Drinks were kept filled, food came out promptly, and we felt very well taken care of throughout the meal. The margaritas deserve special mention. These were legitimate, cocktail-quality margaritas—not an overly sweet premixed drink. Fresh, flavorful, beautifully presented, and one of the highlights of the meal. If you’re looking for Mexican food in Newport News, Mezcal is absolutely worth trying. Great food, excellent cocktails, attentive service, and a noticeably clean and inviting restaurant. We will definitely be back.
