Located in Adam's Morgan, this DC restaurant is a must visit if you're in the area. If you like South Asian or Middle Eastern cuisine, you'll love Lapis Afgan offerings. If someone ask me what it tasted like, I would say if you've had Indian food, there is some crossover in flavors and dishes. Although, Lapis Afgan menu also has a good portion of meat dishes like braised lamb shanks or meat balls both served with flavorful red sauce. Basmati rice and flat breads are staples.

Went for dinner and was seated right away with a reservation. Ordered a veggie menu for two and kofte along with the eggplant and an additional meat dumpling dish for the meat eaters and some cocktails. Everything came out one plate at a time so we had to share the veggie plates with the meat eaters. Veggie menu, despite being for two, only came with one side of rice so that was disappointing. We also ordered a lamb skewer but she brought chicken and it was the last thing to arrive so when we asked for the lamb we had to wait until everything was over and by the time it arrived it was cold??? The waitress said she heard chicken but she didnt repeat back our order so we didn’t confirm and I guess when she did say the skewer was coming in the middle of service we couldn’t hear her bc the restaurant was very loud so she kind of pushed back when we said we ordered lamb. Even tho we ordered bc she insisted it was the best thing on the menu. Everything was pretty mediocre including the cocktails. The veggie menu came with a dessert so we decided to split it among the four and no one took more than one bite because it was genuinely so bad. There was a strong artificial almond flavor that ruined the entire flavor. This was our second visit. The first time we went for the brunch menu which was decent except the waffles were very disappointing. We decided to give it another shot anyway bc of the reviews but I don’t think we’ll be returning or recommending it to anyone.
