We visited for a special occasion and left feeling somewhat underwhelmed. The valet service was wonderful, the hummus, beef sujuk, and desserts were excellent, and our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The ambiance was elegant, although the presence of two small children in the main dining room was a little surprising given the restaurant’s website disclaimers and multiple reminders about the dress code. It wasn’t a major distraction, but it did feel inconsistent with the atmosphere the restaurant seemed to be cultivating. Unfortunately, the main courses didn’t live up to our expectations. We ordered two kabob entrees at nearly $50 each, and perhaps we should have explored other options on the menu. The dishes consisted primarily of seasoned meat and rice, and the vegetables served on the skewers were cold. I think the entrees could have benefited from more thoughtful presentation and flavor balance. Serving the sauce beneath the kabobs or incorporating it more prominently into the dish, along with an acidic element like preserved lemon, might have added the brightness and complexity that seemed to be missing. Overall, it’s a beautiful restaurant with excellent service and a few standout dishes, but the entrees left us disappointed. Given the price point and the expectations set by its reputation, particularly as a New York Times Top 50 restaurant, I left wondering what I had missed. It was a pleasant experience in some respects, but ultimately not the exceptional meal we had anticipated for a special occasion.
